Be ready for recording at the designated time

If possible have a third person film the visit if the caregiver needs to assist the client

The videographer should try to be approximately six feet away from the action for best    results

This is how the home caregiver should prepare

    • The client should be dressed in their usual clothing and footwear
    • They should be wearing their usual glasses, hearing aids, etc
    • They should have their usual cane or walker available if needed
    • They should be seated in their favorite chair
    • Explain that they will simply be moving about the home as they usually do

The meeting begins with the Informed Caregiver introducing him/herself and the client’s responses

The client will be engaged in a social conversation, including questions about the home   environment, lifestyle or background.

Please allow the client to answer independently as much as possible

Let’s start. “Please stand up. Walk to the front door and open it”

The client will be observed performing typical tasks:

    •  Open the front door
    •  Go to the kitchen
    •  Bring a cup of water to a table and sit down
    •  Go into the bathroom. Sit on the toilet. Get into the tub
    •  Go to the bedroom
    •  Go to the closet and/or drawers
    •  Go to the bed. Take off your shoes
    •  Lie down on the bed. Sit up again
    •  Put your shoes back on
    •  Any other activity specifically requested

Pauses are built into this safety assessment

Be mindful that the Informed Caregiver is observing the

client’s performance carefully, though remotely
